FROM THE TOUR BUS TO THE SCHOOL BUS

We were hanging out backstage after a ZZ Top show when Dusty Hill said, “We’ve been a trio for over fifty years but tonight, we got to add him,” as he motioned for me to join the boys for a photo.

Johnny came to Branson for a three week run and had a blast. He talked about Skid Row playing the Grand Palace but was thrilled to get out and see the area and had a chance to do some fishing. I was thrilled after a show when Johnny marched back to the FOH position and demanded a picture with me. “Sid, you are very good at what you do.” RIP Johnny—so were you Singo!

Roy started out as my boss, but he became family. We had just finished a week at the Isle of Capri Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi. The band and crew rode our Harleys and had a blast riding along the Gulf Coast.

“…Kenny Putnam played twin fiddles… Troy Klontz, the long-haired, skinny and funny steel guitar player …entertained the audience (the band and crew) with his antics….he kept us on our toes because he would climb on speakers or lighting trusses to deliver his lines. Troy was a wild man. I could write several chapters about the drummer, Butch McDade…”

“Everyone was friendly and wanted to hear my southern accent. The band was impressed that I had quit my job and moved out of state to join them without knowing a soul.”

Brenda and I have been together for thirty years. We met while working, Brenda was the video girl and I was the sound man. We even got married at The Roy Clark Theatre so our theatre family could attend.
